The Lawn wedding photography Lisa & Glen’s twilight wedding.
I was looking forward to covering The Lawn wedding photography for lisa and Glen. Even more so as it was a ‘twilight wedding‘ with the ceremony at 6pm.
As it’s early November of course it’s already dark when I arrive at 5pm. Now the fact that the whole wedding will be shot in very low light conditions may frighten a few photographers. Not me, low light photography is a speciality of mine. And when I say low light I mean low light…
The Lawn wedding venue Rochford Essex
The Lawn wedding venue in Rochford Essex is a classic English house with decor to match. The light though looking rather romantic is far from great on a wedding photographer’s point of view. This is where my use of off camera flash lighting and top quality lenses comes in. For most of this shoot I used a couple of my favourite lenses. Firstly my Canon 85mm f1.2, now this baby costs £1700 for just the lens itself. It does sound a lot of money but I have to say it’s worth every penny! It allows me so shoot in extremely low light with little or no flash at all, and the colours and blurred background effect it creates is simply stunning. On my second camera I had my Sigma 35mm f1.4 which again is great in low light and produces stunning results.
Now one of the problems I had was that when the bride and groom were in position for their vowels and the main part of the ceremony, the light on them was pretty much non existent. Now I don’t like to use flash during the wedding ceremony as it’s rather distracting so instead I set up a small light on a tripod that gave me enough light on the bride and groom.
Another little trick I used is I set up a flash on a tripod at the bottom of the stairs so i could get a good shot of the bride and her brother who was giving her away. The flash and tripod were hidden behind one of the large pillars so you can’t see it in the photo but it lights up the bride and her brother beautifully. Without this little set up I simply couldn’t have got and good shots of the bride coming down the aisle. And yes this what you pay a professional wedding photographer for, problems arise and it’s our job to get on and deal with then ensuring quality wedding photography whether it be The Lawn or any other wedding venue.
I do hope you’ve enjoyed The lawn wedding photography above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to check our availability.
